At the beginning of the month, National Apprenticeship Week celebrated the impact of apprenticeships on individuals, employers and the economy.

We were delighted to see one of our apprentices, Sarah-Jane Thomas, feature in a business journal this month.

Sarah-Jane is an invoice analyst in VPS' accounts department at Chadderton, in Oldham, completing a one-year Level 2 accountancy apprenticeship programme. She joined VPS initially in 2016 in customer services, and then moved to the invoice department, where Human Resources advised her she could combine paid employment with training through an apprenticeship. Attending Oldham College one day week, Sarah-Jane’s course includes practical based accounting, debits, credits and costings, and has gained distinctions in the two accounting exams she has taken to date. She is only 27 but that counts her as a mature student, and she recommends apprenticeship for career development to others.

Simon Flemmings, invoicing manager at VPS said “I have found the apprenticeship to be a really positive experience for both Sarah-Jane and the business. The skills she has developed are already proving to be advantageous to both her and to VPS. We would recommend apprenticeships as a way to develop and retain future talent.”
