Nicola McGarry - Field Operations Manager

What is your current role and how long have you been with VPS?

Field Operations Manager, Scotland. I’ve been with the business 8 years.

What has been your career journey?

I joined VPS as an Administrator on 14/03/14. Within a few months I was promoted to Senior Administrator due to the knowledge and experience of the industry I had. In October 2014 we lost a large clear & clean contract with Fife Council and as a result we also lost a number of staff including all Supervisors and the Branch Manager. At this point I was given the responsibility of running the Branch which included 3 large contracts and 25 staff. I was finally confirmed into the position of Branch Manager in June 2015. VPS bought Evander around the time the property lease was about to expire at the Glenrothes Depot and the decision was made to relocate into the Evander Depot in Cumbernauld. As there was already a Branch Manger in this Depot, my title was changed to Front Line Manager. Following the decision to split both businesses I was then offered the position of Regional Manager. During a restructure of the business I was given the role of Field Operations Manager.

What made you decide on a career in VPS?

I have planned the work for London Operations for a number of years, over that time I’ve got to know the products and their benefits to our clients. I am constantly on the phone or emailing our local clients so I’m really in tune with what they expect from VPS. I wanted a chance to develop myself further, so I jumped at the opportunity to take a Leadership apprenticeship with Dovenest.

What has been the most memorable achievement in your career so far?

Leading my team safely through the COVID-19 pandemic.

What would you like to achieve in the future?

I would like to make sure my staff get the recognition they deserve for the incredible hard work they put in every day. Ensure they have everything they need to do their job to the best of their ability and provide our Customers with the best quality and service in the industry.
