Matalan – Protection from Break-ins

Requirements

Matalan is a leading international fashion and homeware retailer with a network of more than 230 stores throughout the UK. They contacted VPS in July 2024 to provide security solutions at one of their stores. After repeated store break-ins, Matalan decided that extra security measures were required as quickly as possible.

I was thoroughly impressed with the promptness of VPS in attending our site and installing the necessary equipment following a burglary; this was all within a fewhours of my call!

They took a proactive approach to solving problems while setting up the Smart Hub and later on, two POD S1s. I genuinely believe that the presence of the Pods has deterred the offenders from returning. They were crucial in safeguarding our store during the
ongoing remedial work.

The VPS Group operates across the UK with more than 30 depots, providing a comprehensive range of integrated services. Within 90 minutes of receiving the request from Matalan, VPS colleagues were on site. Straightaway they were able to assess the situation and determine the appropriate security solutions.

This Matalan store already had a range of security measures. Though none of the existing security provided surveillance throughout the store or included remote CCTV monitoring. VPS immediately installed a VPS Smart Hub + with three internal MotionCams on the same day.

There was a further attempted break in at the store that night. All VPS Monitored Video Technology is linked to our Alarm Receiving Centre. So the breach was immediately detected by VPS colleagues. VPS contacted Matalan and they arranged the response to the site to investigate the situation and prevent any theft or damage.

VPS installed two POD S1 units the next day to the exterior of the store to provide further visual deterrence while security improvements were made to the store front over the next days and weeks. There have been no further attempted breaches at the store.
