Case Study

Intelligence-Led Response To illegal Encampment.

Customer Requirements

The vacant property was only three months away from a multimillion- pound sale. Despite being under another security provider’s contract, the customer required an immediate and effective security package after a major breach.

The problem

Our customer contacted us after an unauthorised group (10 caravans and 6 vehicles) had gained access to their multimillion-pound development. They quickly took control of the site, jeopardising the pending sale and putting the broader development at considerable risk. VPS were challenged with addressing the breach, facilitating a rapid eviction and mitigating the risk of future incidents.

A Reactive Partner

VPS demonstrated its role as a true partner, reacting and supporting the client while proactively managing risk. Thanks to VPS Detect, heightened risk in the area was flagged a week before the incident occurred which enabled alignment with the bailiff and eviction team. VPS understood the potential consequences and responded swiftly:

Immediate Deployment: Within hours, VPS deployed five Dog Handlers to support the eviction alongside enforcement partners Marstons.

Swift Removal: This action ensured the swift removal of the unauthorised encampment and the immediate protection of the asset.

The Solution: Layered & Intelligence-Driven

During the eviction process, VPS carried out a comprehensive inspection of the site and designed a layered, intelligence-driven package to safeguard the property against both immediate and long-term risks.

Immediate Protection – Deter & Deny

  • Deployment of 5 Dog Handlers (sustained for two weeks).
  • Installation of 176 custom security sheets to protect vulnerable access points.

Sustainable Protection – Deter, Detect, Delay & Deny

  • Installation of 4 RDTp Towers for real-time surveillance and deterrence.
  • Installation of 4 RDTp Towers for real-time surveillance and deterrence.
  • The 176 custom security sheets were reinforced and maintained.
  • Prominent on-site security signage was used. Intelligence-led deployment of Dog Handlers, adjusted to changing threats in the local area.

The Impact

  • VPS Detect delivered live local intelligence updates to the customer.
  • Proactive intelligence prevented a second attempted encampment just 10 days later.
  • Broader threat detection identified risks to nearby Experian-operated properties.
  • This insight enabled the proactive deployment of 2 Dog Handlers and the recommendation of new physical gates to mitigate exposure at other assets.

The result

VPS took control of the situation using a combination of technology and human intervention. By leveraging VPS Detect intelligence, VPS anticipated threats and acted faster than competitors.

The solution delivered was scalable and cost-effective. It not only resolved the immediate crisis (the illegal encampment) but also delivered ongoing safeguarding of high-value assets against future risks. This case demonstrates the value of an intelligence-led approach in this sector that helps differentiate VPS from competitors.
