VPS Director Carolyn Smith gains recognition for Health and Safety work

Car­olyn Smith CMIOSH, ACILEx,MIIRSM, a Direc­tor at The VPS Group, has won Health and Safe­ty Man­ag­er of the Year at the Safe­ty and Health Excel­lence Awards, held at the NEC Vox Con­fer­ence Cen­tre, Birmingham.

With hun­dreds of peers in the sec­tor attend­ing, a strong line-up of final­ists, includ­ing the Deputy Direc­tor of Envi­ron­ment Agency, and host­ed by come­di­an Hugh Den­nis, Car­olyn said ​“It was a great evening all round. I am of course thrilled to have won the SHE Award, but more so because it adds to the recog­ni­tion of all the hard work that the whole health, safe­ty and well­be­ing team have put into embed­ding a real­ly great, pos­i­tive ethos about health and safe­ty through­out the company.”

Man­ag­ing Direc­tor of UK and Ire­land, The VPS Group, Luke Sta­ton said: ​“Car­olyn has led by exam­ple, trans­form­ing the health and safe­ty of our busi­ness, build­ing a safe­ty plat­form and umbrel­la for all. As a recog­nised part­ner in the secu­ri­ty, facil­i­ties man­age­ment, and con­struc­tion sec­tors, for exam­ple, pro­vid­ing safe­ty and secu­ri­ty ser­vices, it is crit­i­cal we match up to and exceed our cus­tomers’ expectations.”

The Award was pre­sent­ed by Helen Jones CEng MICE, the Chief Oper­at­ing Offi­cer, Enter­prise Cus­tomers Alcu­mus, the spon­sor of the award.

Car­olyn added: ​“Since the pan­dem­ic, health, safe­ty and well­be­ing has played a far more sig­nif­i­cant role in our day to day work­ing lives, but, more than that, it has bro­ken away from the clip­board box-check­ing stereo­type of a bygone age. Peo­ple now embrace it and recog­nise it as a pos­i­tive ele­ment. Look­ing after our­selves, and look­ing out for each oth­er has become much more the norm. It’s a great time to devel­op and build on this.”
