Laura Keddie - Facilities Management apprentice

International Women's Week - Laura Keddie

What is your current role and how long have you been with VPS?

Facilities management apprentice & have been with VPS for 6 months.

What has been your career journey?

I finished secondary school and went on to college and onto university. Unfortunately my mother passed away my first year and I ended up later dropping out. I became a domiciliary care worker for the Elderly and Adults with disabilities, during which I completed my NVQ level 3 in Health and Social care for Adults. I later got a job at Wetherspoon’s and worked my way in to management for 10 years.

What made you decide on a career in VPS?

I was looking to re-train in a separate industry so an apprenticeship really suited me, its helped me find a more suitable working pattern, as I have 2 young children.

What has been the most memorable achievement in your career so far?

I have created processes where there was none and developed a system to manage external contractors at our Head office in Chadderton.

What would you like to achieve in the future?

A full time position with VPS at the end of my apprenticeship, meaning job stability with options for future progression.
